THE POETRY OF THE CIRCLE
Once upon a time the tribe of ancestors
was gathered in a circle around the fire.
A man stood up and started telling the story
of how he had hunted the Big Wild Animal:
how he had run and run and run
and gone beyond the known land.
A woman stood up in turn and told a dream of her
her vision.
Circular listening
circular presence
circular belonging
Shamanic trances and fire dances
To belong
To be-longing
To be-come the body of the world
Then the men and the women danced
The whole tribe danced as the Gods cheered at them
It was the childhood of humanity
It has been and it still is
The Gods cheered at Men
and Men cheered at the Gods.
Tragedy came: the song for the goat
The song for Pan, the half goated God of fertility
The song for Dyonisus, the God of ecstasy
It was the beginning of theatre:
the place for the vision of the Gods
This is where we come from:
the magnificent journey of humankind telling their stories
in performed rituals:
THEATRE
the place where we recognise who we are
following our mothers and fathers:
mad performers
inspired writers
visionary directors
and passionate pedagogues,
all on the footsteps of humankind
Theatre, the place for ecstasy
Ecstasy
the life of the body
the place to be seen
to be and become human beings
to celebrate the beauty of life in its magnificent
Power
To nourish the poetic voice
and become witnesses of the continuity of beauty
To make visible how life is and how it could be
To watch, to look, to see, to know
To Move
To enter the body of the world
To imitate, to mime, to become one with the world
with rigorous fun and disciplined folly
A journey
From silence to voice
From awe to laughter
From Neutral Mask
to Red Nose
From the mask of humanity
To the humanity of the mask
This is Kìklos, the CIRCLE
A Journey in the birth of beauty
A School
An Initiation
A place to be and to learn
A place to get lost and be renewed
A strong and gentle tribe
of seekers of beauty.
